Google Shopper – Review

Google Shopper – Review

Post Rating

Earlier today, Google launched Google Shopper in US. Google Shopper is really similar to what Amazon apps, ShopSavvy and CompareEverywhere – visual product scanner. Granted, they were all started from what Froogle/Google Product Search & Google Shopping already started. But still, not so innovative this time Google ;)

Anyway, let’s  compare Google Shopper to its predecessor. We only have access to this apps today, so we can’t done many real world test – but so far, we like what we got.

Interface wise, Google Shopper is well.. Google. That means: clean, no nonsense interface, and just works. The image/barcode scanner is well polished, quite different to what we have on Barcode Scanner, and other apps. Which bring it to our next point: how it actually does.

Google Shopper is fast and accurate. We can use Google Shopper in 3 different ways:

  • Full product pictures. Unlike Amazon app that require us to send a picture, and wait for the response through email, Google Shopper scan the pictures and give us the result in real-time. On the screenshot below, you can look at how Google Shopper can find the result even when we only provides a part of the book cover. It seems that Google Shopper can interpolate the picture, send the picture to their server, and send back the result in a really quick manner.
  • Barcode scanning. No complain here, no innovation either. It just works.
  • Voice and Text search. Google is utilizing Android voice recognition capability here. No surprise, the performance is also the same.

After Google found your item, it will use Google Shopping engine to find the cheapest price online – or cheapest actual Brick&Mortar store closest to your current location. Other than that, Google Shopper also save your search history – and that’s pretty much it. No shopping list, favorite store, interface color customization. Cmon Google, I know you can do even better than this.

Google Shopper is for
